Using Analytics Leads to Competitive Advantage, Claims Report

Research highlights findings from a report from the MIT Sloan School of Management and analytics software provider SAS, which found that:

  • “Two-thirds of companies are gaining a competitive advantage by using analytics – a 15% increase on last year and an 80% increase on two years ago.”

“Using a global survey of more than 2,500 business executives, the report identified ‘analytical innovators’” - companies that reported “both strong competitive advantage and improved innovation.”

“In addition, analytical innovators were more likely to have seen analytics cause a shift in the power structure of their organizations.”

The report defines analytics as “the use of data and related insights developed through applied analytics disciplines (for example, statistical, contextual, quantitative, predictive, cognitive and other models) to drive fact-based planning, decisions, execution, management, measurement and learning. Analytics may be descriptive, predictive or prescriptive.”
