ARF RSS Feeds

What is RSS?

RSS is a method of communication that allows a "reader" (software also known as an "aggregator") to receive published information via a "feed." The individual with the reader "subscribes" to feeds of interest. Whenever the feed is updated, say, with a new article, the reader lists the new content title with a link to the full article. RSS is an easy and efficient way, then, to track your interests.

How do I subscribe to RSS feeds?

There are several choices to browse and subscribe to feeds. Most commonly, subscribers use a feed reading application known as a “news aggregator” to update and list feeds. There are several free readers available. Search for "feed aggregator" or "feed reader," or try one of the readers below. Although using an aggregator is the most popular method of reading feeds, you can also subscribe, or link, to a feed via your browser, or use Outlook as well.

A typical feed reader generally displays the number of new and unread feed entries, entry titles, a short description of each, plus a link to the entire article.

If you prefer, you can use an online, web-based service, such as Google or Yahoo, to track and manage feeds. Online services have the advantage of being able to access your feeds anywhere from a web browser.

Each method has a slightly different method to subscribe. Generally you just click on the link, or copy the link (right click and "copy link"), and paste into a new feed in your aggregator (there is usually an "add feed" button). The information in the feed will be updated when the feed contains new content.
